Neuropathology · Clinical science communication · Neurodegenerative disease

I am a Clinical Scientist in Neuropathology, working in Dublin, Ireland. My background spans both research and clinical science, with a particular focus on neurodegenerative diseases — Alzheimer’s disease, prion diseases (including sporadic CJD, genetic CJD, fatal familial insomnia and GSS), and the neuropathological processes that underlie them.

My research training included a master’s in neuroscience at Radboud University, where I worked on the cognitive consequences of obesity and the mechanisms of neuroinflammation. I have also written a grant proposal examining the structural brain correlates of dance therapy in autistic children — an early exposure to the challenge of translating a technically complex research question into language a funding panel can evaluate.

Clinical science communication is where my two interests converge. The gap between what neuropathologists know and what patients, families, and clinicians receive is significant — and, in the context of diseases like prion disorders, where diagnoses are rare and information is often poor, genuinely consequential. I produce patient education resources, clinical summaries, and science communication materials that hold to clinical standards without being inaccessible to the people who need them.

At Iridis I lead neuroscience and clinical content. I work across publication support, medical communications, and patient-facing materials. My clinical context means I can review claims for accuracy against current diagnostic and therapeutic standards — not just against the primary literature.
